Abstract

Size at maturty, developmental stages and breeding seasons of five sharks from the Portonovo Coast are described. A maximum of twenty embryos with an average of twelve embryos of Sphyrna blochii have been collected. The relationship between the number of embryos and the total length of the mothers was also worked out. The other sharks studied for the breeding habits were S. lewini, Rhizoprionodon acutus, Carcharhinm Itmbatus and C. sorrah. All these have a developed placental system for nourishing their developing embryos in the uterus.
