Abstract

COVID-19 outbreak has been deemed a global health emergency and has unravelled extreme shock for the economy. The impact on developing countries like India is one of the heightening concerns with disruption of demand and supply chain of agricultural commodities like fish and fishery products. The pandemic induced lockdown all over the country and related logistic restrictions triggered severe disruption of livelihoods in all sectors with marine fisheries sector being no exception. Due to Covid-19 induced lockdown, there has been considerable reduction in the efforts, landings and revenue realization at the points of sale affecting marine fish distribution along the domestic marketing and international trade. Fishermen across the economic spectrum – from the large-scale mechanized fleets to the small-scale fishers across the coastline have suffered economic blow due to the lockdown.
