Abstract

The availability and distribution pattern of marine fishery resources In India follow a pattern typical of tropical waters. The fishery resource is constituted by a large variety of species (nearly 15-70 species of fin fishes; and about 1000 species of shell fishes) coexisting in the same fishing ground. The mum-species fishery comprises of over 200 commercially important finfish and shellfish species.
