Abstract

India has pearl oyster resources mainly in two areas, the Gulf of Mannar and Gulf of Kutch . The exploitation of pearls, popularly called "pearl fish fry", has been exclusively in the bands of the Governments of the two maritime States adjoining tbe above two areas namely, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
