    Abstract

The ANDFISH is a perspective master plan for the eco-friendly development of fisheries in the A&N Island prepared by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research in concert with its institutes such as, CMFRI, CIFT, CIBA and CARl at the specific intent of the Administrator of the Islands. ANDFISH covers developmental aspects of coastal and oceanic fisheries, fishing technology, post harvest handling and processing, brackishwater aquaculture and mariculture for the XIth and XIlth plan periods. This strategic plan takes into consideration the reco=endations of various earlier committees and working groups and further, takes as a base, the potential yield estimate of more than 180,000 tonnes of tuna resources available for harvesting from the waters of the A&N Islands. The primary focus for investment and fisheries development in the islands was therefore the exploitation of tunas together with new initiatives in brackishwater aquaculture and mariculture of high value species.
