Abstract
Several hundred clams. Meretrix casta IChwnni tz) obtained from Athankarai estuary (long. 79% . Lat. 9' 2VN.) on 28th 0ztob:r. 1964, were transplanted in the pond of the fish farm of the Central Marine Fi~hetics Research Institute, M mdspam Camp. During the period of study extending over six months, it was found that tbero was an initial high rate of growth in ths sesd clams immdiately on transplan&tion. However, this rate of growth declined Brst slowly and then rapidly after five months. Probabk caws for this uneven growth are dimwed.
