Abstract
During the period January '04 to March'landed huge quantities of Nemipterus spp at Sassoon Docks in Trawlers . 04. (2063.55 t)The nets were operated at a depth of 35-80m for 7-day trips and 60-85m for 10-12 day trips. The fishing area was southwest off Mumbai and Ratnagiri. The total length ranged from 50-70 mm in January'04 to 150-245 mm in March '04 catch. However, the rates declined from Rs. 18/kg to Rs. 10/kg. The catch was disposed off by auction. The catch was further transported to Ratnagiri for processing into Surimi.
