Abstract
The two species of mussel, Perna viridis and P. indica, contribute to a sustenance f ishery in India, particularly along the south-west coast. The paper deals with the characteristics of this fishery in the zones Ratnagiri to Gangali, Cannanore to Calicut and Kovalam to Muttom md also at other dispersed centres
