Abstract

The state of West Bengal having a coastline of 158 km, (including the Hoogly Matlah estuary), is endowed with a wide range of fishery resources from the Bay of Bengal right upto the Himalayan Foothills. (Table I). With an esti mated fishery population of 14.87 lakhs (2001 - '02), comprising both marine and inland.
