Abstract
Based on the ii\formations presented in the preceding sections on oceanography, productivity of the eastern Arabian Sea and the fisheries and biological characteristics of the resources along the west coast of India during different seasons particularly in the monsoon and the informations collected by CMFRI over the period of 45 years; the impact of fishing during monsoon months on (i) the fishery resources, (ii) interaction between the artisanal and the mechanised fishing sectors exploiting the resources, (iii) complexifies of multispecies - multigear fisheries in the inshore waters and (iv) their possible resource management options are analysed critically, discussed and recommendations suggested/ formulated. It is clearly found that the management of fisheries cannot be considered only a matter concerning administration or biology or resource assessment, but as an integrated approach taking into account sociological, economical and developmental objectives and priorities as well.
