Abstract
One of the essential problems in perfecting the technology of oyster farming is to identify and eliminate the predators causing periodical mortality of oyster in the culture system and to suggest adequate control measures. At Tuticorin it has been observed that the gastropod belonging to the species Cymatium cingulatum causes considerable damage to the stock in the oyster farm especially when the oysters are 3 to 4 months old. Observations on the feeding method and behaviour of the predator are given. Control measures for saving the farm stock are also discussed.
