Abstract

The International Fisheries Congress & Expo (IFCE 2024) brought together researchers, policymakers and industry leaders to tackle the critical issues that face the global fisheries sector. The event charted a new course for the future of fisheries, aquaculture and allied sectors, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 14 which focuses on life below water. This article delves into the pressing challenges identified at the congress, the cutting-edge solutions proposed, and their significance in achieving sustainable fisheries and aquaculture practices. The congress was marked by a series of thematic sessions that addressed the pressing challenges and opportunities in fisheries and aquaculture, aiming to foster sustainability, enhance biodiversity conservation, and ensure the economic viability of sector. The discourse spanned sustainable ecosystem conservation, frontier technologies in aquatic resource management, climate change impacts, future-ready aquaculture practices and innovations in post-harvest techniques.
