Abstract
When there are a large number of treatments to test and/or whole blocks are unavailable or incorrect, incomplete block designs (IBDs) are preferable. When the number of treatments is significant, Yates suggested these designs to remove heterogeneity to a larger extent than a complete block design. The precision of a treatment effect estimate is determined by the number of treatment replications; the greater the number of replications, the greater the precision. The precision of the estimate of the difference between two treatment effects is similar.
