Abstract
India is the second largest producer of fish in the world, contributing to 5.68% of global fish production. India accounts for 2.5% of the global fish market and the fisheries sector is a source of livelihood for over 1.44 crore people. During the 11th five year plan, the fisheries sector contributed 1.1% to the GDP. Contribution to agricultural GDP in the year 2014-15 was 5.3%.
