Abstract
A rich and varied marine life is present in the Indian seas which is also characterized by a diversity of habitats- the barrier reefs and atolls of the Andaman Nicobar Islands, the Gulf of Mannar and the Gulf of Kutch, the mangrove and coastal lagoons, lakes, backwaters and the rocky sandy shores, harboring myriads of animal and plant species.
