Abstract
The term immunity means exemption. This meaning was derived from exemption granted to certain categories of citizens in the case of compulsory military services. It has been recognized that those who recovered from epidemic diseases were exempt (immune) from further attacks. This knowledge helped Edward Jenner in 1798 to develop vaccine against small pox. Immune responses have its evolutionary beginning in animal kingdom some 400 million years ago.
