    Abstract

The present paper is the outcome of regular plankton and hydrological investigations off West Hill, Calicut, for' the three years 1948-5l. There has been very little detailed work done on the plankton and hydrology of Indian coastal waters, especially along the West Coast of India except for the account of the seasonal fluctuations of the plankton of the Trivandrum Coast by Menon (1945) and notes on the plankton of the Malabar Coast by Hornell and Nayidu (1923) and of the Bombay Harbour by Bal and Pradhan (1945) and Gonzalves (1947).
