Abstract
The thesis is presented in two parts. Part I describes the biologyof E. diacanthus in detail in six chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the subject - with a review of the important works carried out by earlier workers in this field. Chapter 2 describes the age and growth of the fish determined from skeletal hard parts like otoliths, scales and vertebrae. Theoretical growth and length-weight relationship are also included in this Chapter. Chapter 3 describes the food and feeding habits of - E. diacanthus, the relative importance and percentage composition of each item is described in great detail. Chapter 4 describes the reproductive biology of the three species at length giving special emphasis to protogynous hermaphroditism, age and size at sex reversal etc.
