Abstract

The numerous teleostean fishes inhabiting our coastal waters and estuaries, although normally restricted within definite ranges in salinity, show wide differences in their ability to endure changes in salt content of the environment. A few species among these are relatively more euryhaline and, on account of their remarkable powers of adaptation, are highly useful for culture in saline lagoons and coastal fish farms where seasonal fluctuation in salinity is a usual phenomenon.
