Abstract
Three postlarval stages of Penaeus canaliculatus Olivier collected from Cochin backwaters are described and illustraed. These postlarvae closely resemble those of P. japonicus in all essential characters except for some variation in the distribution of chromatophores. Their occurrence in this environment has been found to be strictly seasonal (January-May) and is correlated with periods of higher temperature and salinity.
