    Abstract

Marine fishery resources of the country are characterised by a variety of fishes, crustaceans and shell fishes, that co-exist in the fishing grounds. The fishery at present is restricted to the inshore waters of the continental shelf. The topographical features of the coastline and the environmental and meteorological conditions on the east and west coasts influence the distribution pattern and seasonal abundance of fishes.
