Abstract
The paper embodies the results of a study on the behavior of Deep Scattering Layer in general and the role of euphausiids in the DSL based on observations made in the EEZ of India. Continuous monitoring on the behavior of DSL carried out in the early morning and late evening hours revealed that the DSL oscillated between surface and around 600m depth. The descent from surface started as discrete layers which detached one by one and went down to ultimately settled depth more than 400m. Similarly the upward migration in the evening also took place as definite layers from the main DSL and moved upto the surface.
