Abstract
The class Anthozoa of phylum coelenterata includes the corals, sea- anemones, sea fans and gorgonians. Until the beginning of the 18th centuary corals and their relatives were generally regarded as plants. It was Peysonnel, a Marseilles physician who showed that corals are animals which move and eat. Coral organisms are polyps like the sea anemones.
