Abstract
An unusually large sized male sea cow Dugong dugon measuring 310 cm in total length captured from the Gulf of Mannar using dynamite sticks is reported. The sea cow Dugong dugon popularly known as 'Avolia' and 'Kadal panni' (Sea pig) in Tamil and 'Babloo' in Saurashtra and Kutch is a herbivorous mammal that occurs in coastal waters where sea grasses are abundant offering food and shelter. In India, the dugong occurs commonly in the Gulf of Mannar and the Palk Bay and in very stray numbers in the Gulf of Kutch.
