Abstract
The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute has issued a formal advisory confirming that tuna harvested from Indian coastal waters is safe for human consumption. The statement aims to address growing public concern after international reports of parasitic infestations in fish populations elsewhere. The CMFRI's clarification follows recent media reports identifying parasitic infections in skipjack tuna. Those findings were based on a scientific study of fish populations in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Brazil. The institute emphasised that these regional data cannot be generalised to fish stocks in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone.
