Abstract
The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute is adopting digital technologies to strengthen shark conservation initiatives and support sustainable management of marine resources. The institute has developed a mobile application, ‘Shark Aware’, and an interactive e-learning module on these species to improve the monitoring and scientific study of shark populations. Advanced digital tools will help researchers collect, manage, and analyse marine data, enabling better understanding of shark behaviour, habitats, and conservation needs. V E Abdul Gafoor, Kerala Fisheries Minister, released the digital tools. A scientific team led by Livi Wilson, senior scientist at the institute's Finfish Fisheries Division, developed the app and e-learning module, with financial support from the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB).
