Abstract

The longnose seahorse has a distinctive low coronet, in line with arch of neck, which is the bony projection or 'crown' on the top of its head and the coronet is visible as five small points. It has sharp hook-like cheek and eye spines (appear flat) and a narrow head. It has no nose spine. There are 18-22 dorsal soft rays, 16-19 pectoral soft rays and 4 anal soft rays. There are 11 trunk rings and 40-41 tail rings.
