    Abstract

Even though the coral reefs cover less than 0.25% of the marine envixonrnent, they are the most bioIogicalIy rich and productive systems on earth and ofkn described as 'coral paradise' and 'rain forest of the seas'. Coral reefs support over 4000 species of fish, about 800 species of reef buiIding cords and a great number of other invertebrates and sponges. It is estimated that coral reefs provide goods and services worth about 375 bilIion US dolIars each year. The marine ornamental animals are mostly associated with the coral seas. The coral reefs provide a variety of microhabitats in which a variety of marine ornamental fishes and other ornamental animals are associated. The ornamenta1 animals are the highest value added product that can be harvested from a coral reef
