Abstract

Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) will celebrate its platinum jubilee on 18 February 2017. The one year long celebration will be inaugurated by the Kerala Governor Justice P Sathasivam. The event will begin at 2.30 pm at the CMFRI headquarters, Kochi. Deputy Director General (Fisheries) of ICAR, Dr J K Jena, New Delhi will preside over the function. Established in the year 1947 as a Marine Fisheries Research Station, CMFRI joined Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) two decades later, in the year 1967. Country's leading marine fisheries research centre will observe the event for successful completion of 70 years in the sector. Since its establishment the institute has been a pioneer in accomplishing marine fisheries research in the country like sea farming, coastal mariculture, biotechnological applications of marine resources, biodiversity studies and so on.
