Abstract
It is the opinion of geographers that Sri Lanka and India were of the one land mass and the island of Sri Lanka got separated from mainland of india by geodesic activity. The formation of the islands, the sea erosion at Dhanushkodi and Pamban channel are some of the visible proofs of the action of the tides and waves.
