Abstract
The utilization of the fishery wealth available in the seas around India was confined until recently to the inshore region extending less than ten miles from the shore, the offshore region being left mostly untouched. This was partly because of the want of mechanization of the craft and gear, and partly because of the want of sufficient knowledge of the availability of good catches in the offshore grounds.
