Abstract
The small-scale fisheries comprising of the traditional fisheries and related activities as practised by the artisanal fishermen, play a significant role in the Indian fisheries. About one million active fishermen employing the indigenous crafts and gears and following the traditional methods of fishing are engaged in the small scale fisheries of the marine region.
