Abstract
A male whale shark, Rhincodon typus, was landed at Chennai Fisheries Harbour on 7th July 2006, measuring 8.1 meter in length and weighing approximately 4 tonnes. It was caught in mechanized gill net operated 25 km northeast of Chennai coast at a depth of 40 meter. It was brought to the shore at Chennai Kasimedu Landing Centre
