    Abstract

    Among all groups of animals, copepods are considered to be the most abundant metazoans on earth. These are small planktonic crustaceans occur in almost all kinds of water bodies on earth surface. Copepods are the primary consumers and secondary producers in the aquatic ecosystem. Copepods are basically classified under the Phylum Arthropoda, Subphylum Crustacea, class Hexanauplia and Subclass Copepoda. Basic body forms a large cephalothorax (union of cephalic and thoracic segments) and a reduced abdomen which ends in a paired caudal ramus. Basically, copepods have a median eye, pair of elongated antennule, small antenna, mandible, maxilla (2pairs), maxilliped, 5 pairs of swimming legs
