Abstract
Fisheries management is in the domain of political affairs, integrating social, economical and ecological factors to select an appropriate management plan. It relies on stock assessment to get an idea about the current stock status and the consequences of alternative harvest levels. The advances in the quantitative fishery management in the last thirty years are driven by the theoretical and analytical techniques in general. The progress was possible specifically by the development and availability of computers, programming languages and computational algorithms.
