Abstract

The Gulf of Mannar is located on the southeastem tip of India in the State of Tamil Nadu. It is in this region India's first and foremost Marine Biosphere Reserve is located. Popularly known as the Biologists paradise, this region harbours more than 3,600 species of plants and animals, making it one of the world's richest marine biosphere reserves.
