Abstract
The state of art of technology available in India at present on seed production and culture of brackish water fin fishes, is reviewed. In spite of the growing demand for the seed of cultivable brackish water fin fishes for aquaculture, the technology available on seed production is still laboratory oriented. Even though the culture of fin fishes such as mullets, pearlspot and milk fish is practised to a limited extent in the traditional systems, theemphasis is still on shrimp farming. The probable reasons for the lack ofmearungful progress and extension of the viable and economically feasible seed production and culture technologies of the brackish water fin fishes of India are discussed in detail.
