Abstract
The paper presents a review of the investigations camed out so far on the biology of the commercially important prawns of India and the present status of the exploited prawn fishery of the country. The average annual marine prawn production of the country during the past ten•year period has been of the order of 1.67.663 tonnes, forming 11.9% of the total marine fish production. Penaeid prawns contribute to about 62% of the total prawn landings.
