Abstract

The paper outlines the status of the tuna fishery in the Indian EEZ and the annual and seasonal fluctuations in the catches in the maritime states. A brief account of the catch, effort, CPUE, species and size composition and distribution pattern of tunas caught by multiple gears at selected centres Iike Mangalore, Calicut, Cochin, Vizhinjam, Tuticorin and Minicoy along with some aspects of behaviour of tunas is given.
