Abstract
Fisheries sector plays an important role in Indian economy by contributing to national income, exports, food and nutritional security and employment generation. At present, overall fisheries sub-sector cf India has only a passing mention as part of the agricultural policy, referring to the fisheries development in the country. However, the different fiveyear plans of India have set up some broad policies with regard to investment and production in the fisheries sector.
