Abstract
The term fingerprinting was coined by Alec Jeffreys in i 985 to describe the pattern of highly variable, individual-specific profiles that he and his colleagues saw in Southern blots ofhuman genomic DNA hybridized to a tandemly-arrayed repetitive DNA sequence.
