Abstract
The United Nations has projecled the human population to reach 9.2 billion by 2050, which is within estimates of the maximum carrying capacity of the planet. Available water resources appear insufficient for agriculture to meet the food demands of 9.2 billion people. The present population already experiences water stress because of the impact of population growth and climate change.
