Abstract
Information on the socio-economic conditions of people living in Chavara region is highly essential to assess the impact of shallow water mining. Although mining works are going on in this region for the last few decades, people started to show resentment in recent years for its further intensification mainly due to the envisaged socio-economic implications. Since the proposed mining will be undertaken in the shallow waters of this area, its impact will be mainly confined on fisheries and the fishermen who are depending on it.
