Abstract

The taxonomy of the economically important prawns of the subfamily Penaeinae occurring in the waters of Goa is described. Species belonging to 5 genera, namely, Penaeus (4 species), Mefapenaeopsis (1 species), Metapenaeus (6 species), Trachypenaeus (1 species) and Parapenaeopsis (5 species) are recorded. 10 out of the 17 species included are reported for the first time from these waters.
