Abstract
From the myths and fantasies which inspired the imagination of Jules Verne to write his fabulous book " Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea", t he advanced instrumentation of the space age has taken many strides to make the ocean depths no longer objects of mystery. Besides the classical oceanographic tools, Bathyscaphe, television cameras and electronic sensors have increased man's ability to probe the dark depths of the ocean.
