Abstract
The paper outlines the status of the tuna fishery in the lndian EEZ and the annual and seasonal fluctuations in the catches in the maritime states. A brief account of the catch, effort, CPUE, species and size composition and di~tribution pattern of tunas caught by multiple gears at selected centres !ikr Mangalore, Calicut, Cochin Vizhmjam, Tuticorin and Minicoy along with some aspects of behaviour of tunas is given.
