Abstract

The fishery resources of marine and brackish waters along the Tamilnadu coast have been traditionally exploited by number of types of indegenous gears. In 430 fishing villages studied along the Tamilnadu coast, compraising a maximum of 21 and 19% in Chengalpet and Ramnad districts respectively traditional fishing with indegenous gears.A number of indegenous gears have been modified in recent years along the Tamilnadu coast with changes in the net meterial to facilitate getting better catches.
