Abstract

A survey of literature reveals the large-scale investigations carried out to assess the quantum of fish resources that can be harvested from the sea. However, the answer to the basic question concerned with what makes soma species of fish superabundant in the oceans remains unanswered. Recent studies on the associations between the plankton community and fisheries Illustrate how the biological oceanographic data may be utilized in understanding the mechanisms contributing to the survival of fish. I\^any authors have indicated clearly defined relationships between the environmental parameters and the fishery. In this paper an attempt is made to assess the role of plankton that can contribute towards fisheries development.
