Abstract

From 1976 onwards a series of cyclones hit Andhra Pradesh.This report gives an account of the damage, caused by these cyclones in the worst affected areas of Andhra Pradesh and the measures taken for the relief and rehabilitation of those affected, particularly of fishermen. The sudden disappearance of entirecoastal villages in the tidal wave and appearance of colonies with modern housing units and other facilitiesin the place of hutments, thus changing the entire landscape as if by the trick of a magician, may amply justify the statement that these cyclones have proved to be a blessing in disguise.
