Abstract
In India an acute shortage of live-bait fishes for tuna fishing by pole and line method has been faced in recent times in the Lakshadweep waters. A preliminary survey was made at Vizhinjam from May, 1986 to April, 1987 to find out the availability of live-bait fishes. And the study indicates that the species like Caesio caerulaureus, Dipterygonotus leucogrammicus and Pranesus duodecimalis holds the potential to be used as bait fish after further studies.
